This is a vocabulary learning program put together as part
of dissertation research through the University of
Stellenbosch. It is still being improved upon; however, one
may look at this program to see what a rudimentary version
of a vocabulary learning program for Biblical Hebrew
informed by research in Second Language Vocabulary
Acquisition might look like. With that said, this program
was developed for a long-term case study. The
grammar instruction is relatively
over-simplified as the only goal was to have the
learner proficient enough to learn vocabulary. The
vocabulary learning begins in Week 6 in the program for those who
would like to move ahead to that material. A
paper-based version of the vocabulary materials can be
found HERE and the grammar workbook for the
course can be found HERE.
The program works well in Internet Explorer 8 or Safari.
Quicktime is required to view the videos and acrobat reader
is required for some of the exercises toward the end of the
course. Also in Safari, to listen
to the “verbal repetition” (=VR) on the meaning
pages of the “flashcards” one should right
click and open in a new tab.
Credit must be given to Kregel Academic and Professional
for many of the images on the flashcards. They have been
incorporated for academic research and not for profit. If
you would like to learn more about their Pictorial
Library of Bible Lands, visit HERE.
